Start decision aidYes, weighted blankets are safe for children! There are a few things to keep in mind.
Important safety rules:
Do not use in:
Doesn’t it get too warm?
Our children's blankets are made of breathable cotton with hypoallergenic glass sand, allowing heat to escape well. Most children find them comfortable all year round.
Safety always comes first
Our blankets are filled with hypoallergenic, non-toxic micro glass beads. Of course, you only want the best for your child. Additionally, we offer a 100-day trial period. So don’t rush, you and your child have plenty of time to try out the weighted blanket and get used to it.
A weighted blanket for children provides a gentle pressure on your child's body. Children experience this pressure as a tender hug, which has a calming effect. Due to the pressure of the blanket, children who toss and turn a lot and are restless fall asleep faster. Their brains receive the signal that they are lying comfortably, the nervous system relaxes, and the happiness chemicals serotonin and endorphins are produced. This helps your child fall asleep more quickly.
The kids' weighted blanket from Novaline is designed for children who have trouble sleeping. They toss and turn a lot, remain restless, and therefore have difficulty falling asleep. Our lightest blanket is suitable for children from 16 kg. If you want to buy a weighted blanket for children, many occupational therapists recommend a weighted blanket that is 10 percent of their body weight plus 0.5 kg to 1 kg extra.
Children can use a single weighted blanket when they:
The last point is especially important here. A 6kg weighted blanket may seem heavy for a child weighing 37 kg, but it comes down to the weight per m2. Because our blankets are designed with a unique diamond pattern that keeps the glass beads in place, the blanket applies even pressure everywhere. A child never lies under the entire weighted blanket, so it will not be too heavy. We also have small blankets suitable for toddlers.
Choose a weighted blanket of about 10% of your child's body weight, possibly plus 0.5 to 1 kg if your child likes deep pressure.

Body weight is the key factor, not age. For example, if your 7-year-old child already weighs 38 kg, look at the row that corresponds to that weight. If your child is taller than about 120 cm, there are also blankets weighing 4 and 5 kg in 140 x 200 cm. If your child weighs at least 37 kg and sleeps in a single bed, they can use a single weighted blanket of 6 kg: due to the larger surface area, the pressure per square meter is comparable. Want to know exactly how to determine the weight? Then read how to choose the right weight for a weighted blanket.
In bed
Use the weighted blanket as a duvet, directly on the body for maximum effect (so do not place it on top of their own duvet).
On the couch
Many children also enjoy it while watching TV, reading, or relaxing.
Adjustment phase
Some children sleep more calmly immediately; others need 2–7 nights to get used to it. For example, start with 30–60 minutes at bedtime and increase gradually.
*Tip! Does your son or daughter weigh at least 37 kilograms and already sleep in a single bed? Then choose a single weighted blanket of 6 kilograms.
From what age is it suitable?
From about 3 years old, provided your child can remove the blanket themselves.
How heavy should the blanket be?
About 10% of body weight + 0.5–1 kg extra if your child likes deep pressure.
Can my child get too warm?
Our blankets are breathable and suitable for daily use. Unsure? Choose a lighter size or leave the blanket partially open.
How quickly does it work?
Many children notice a difference within a few days. Some need 1–2 weeks to get used to it.
Can I use an extra duvet?
For young children: no. Use the blanket as the main duvet. From teenage years, it can be used in consultation.
Is a weighted blanket for children different from a weighted quilt?
No. Weighted blanket and weighted quilt are different names for the same product: a blanket with extra weight that helps your child sleep more calmly.
Can I try this first?
Yes, you get 100 nights to try it out.
